Lead Practice Nurse – Doreen Bower

Our Lead Practice Nurse Doreen will be retiring from SMG on Friday 25th March 2022 after working in the NHS for 23 years.

Doreen started her nursing career at St Helier Hospital, Carshalton. In 2002 she worked as a District Nurse in the local Crawley area, she then came to work for SMG in 2007 as a Practice Nurse. Doreen has a vast wealth of medical knowledge and experience and specialised in respiratory, sexual health and health reviews for patients with learning difficulties. Doreen helped vaccinate huge numbers of patients at the covid vaccination site during the pandemic and also conducted numerous home visits to vaccinate our housebound patients.

Doreen proved herself to be a compassionate and caring nurse to all our patients but particularly to those patients that required extra support towards the end of their life. Aiding the patients and their families to navigate the health care system to gain the information needed and enlist the care of other valuable medical services. She took additional time to talk through the various options and helped patients complete their end of life care plans.

Doreen has been an invaluable member of the practice team and will be missed by both her colleagues and our SMG patients. We are sure you will join us in wishing her well in her well-deserved retirement.

All the best Doreen from us all.
